If you’ve owned an Amazon Echo for a few years now, you could be forgiven for thinking that everyone owns one. The truth is that this isn’t the case.
A family member of mine bought one for the very first time today. They made the leap as there was an offer on the latest Echo Dot at just £34.99. While this is a good price, it’s not the cheapest price I’ve seen.
So, when is the best time to buy an Amazon Echo to get the best price? There are two events in the shopping calendar where you are likely to find the best price.
Black Friday
As it’s only a few weeks away now, let’s start with Black Friday.
Black Friday is now firmly on the shopping map in the UK. It may annoy some of us, but there is no doubt that there are some great deals to be had. In recent years, you can even grab some of the best deals in the run up to Black Friday too.
In the last Black Friday event on Amazon, I’m pretty sure they were offering the latest version of the Echo Dot* for a disgustingly cheap £22 with free delivery for Prime members. This is seriously cheap!
If you’re wondering why Amazon can afford to sell them so cheap, it’s because they will likely make more money going forward through the connected products and services they sell. I’m thinking Smart Plugs*, Smart Bulbs*, Amazon Music Unlimited* and the like.
Amazon Prime Day
Another time you are likely to pick up an Amazon Echo cheap is on Amazon Prime Day.
Amazon Prime Day happens once a year and it’s only available to Amazon Prime* members. If you’re not a Prime Member yet then don’t worry, you can sign up during the event to enjoy the deals.
The term Amazon Prime Day is probably a little misleading as the deals last for up to 36 hours a lot of the time. Still, if you’ve missed Black Friday then this is a great time to grab an Amazon Echo at a discounted price.
Should You Wait for an Event?
Now we come to the question of whether you should wait for a specific event to buy an Amazon Echo?
While you may save a few pounds in buying an Echo on Black Friday or Amazon Prime Day, you’ll need to make a decision as to whether the potential savings on offer make it worth you not buying one.
Let’s use the Echo Dot as an example. If the current Amazon price for this product is £49.99, then it may be worth holding out for one of the times where they regularly discount them to around £34.99. These deals come up quite often.
If they are already on offer at this price, though, and you’re wondering whether to hold out for Black Friday or Amazon Prime Day, then you have to decide whether it’s worth waiting a few months just to save a tenner or so. This could be especially true if owning an Amazon Echo might help you to save money.
It’s up to You
While we hope that this post has given you some useful info as to the best time of year to buy an Amazon Echo, when you decide to buy is ultimately up to you.
If you don’t mind waiting for a few weeks or months, then aim for Black Friday or Amazon Prime Day. If they’re already on offer, though, and you’re excited to try an Echo out, then perhaps hitting the ‘Add to Basket’ button might not be the worst thing you’ve ever done.
